More about Periodontal Surgery
Periodontal surgery is a critical procedure that addresses a wide range of oral health issues. This type of surgery typically becomes necessary when non-surgical treatments, such as scaling and root planing, fail to improve the condition of the patient’s gums. There are several signs that you may need periodontal surgery, including persistent gum bleeding, loose teeth, and gum recession. Other symptoms may include chronic bad breath, tender or swollen gums, and abscesses. It is essential to seek treatment promptly if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, as untreated periodontal disease can ultimately lead to tooth loss and other severe complications.
Contact us if you have any concerns, and we’ll help determine if periodontal surgery is the right option for you.

Cleaning & Maintenance
Whether it is your first initial visit to our office or a routine maintenance cleaning, our hygiene team will provide you with a relaxing and comfortable experience. Our offices use digital and intraoral cameras which allow our Doctors to closely see any possible problem areas in our patients mouths. Our hygiene team also specializes in scaling and root planning treatment, which is done when there are signs of periodontal disease. Learn more below!
What Is Periodontal Disease?
Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection of the gums and the underlying bone that supports your teeth. Leaving periodontal disease untreated can result in excessive bone loss and gum inflammation. Although there is no cure for periodontal disease, there are dental procedures that can help control its progression. There are also efficient homecare tips that can help.
What is Scaling & Root Planing?
Scaling and Root Planing is a type of “deep cleaning” that is performed over 2-4 separate visits by a Hygienist or Periodontist. During this procedure, built-up and hardened plaque is removed from the enamel of the teeth and the associated root surfaces will then be smoothed over to remove any rough spots where harmful bacteria can live. Once Scaling and Root Planing is completed, you will then get what is called a Perio Maintenance cleaning every 3-4 months.
Restorative Dentistry
Whether you need a restorative filling or a more detailed procedure, our Doctors are here to provide patients with personalized dental care. Sunrise’s Doctors specialize in fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, oral surgery and root canal therapy. We offer a variety of cosmetic dental procedures including white fillings and porcelain crowns and bridges. Our South Lyon location also has an on-site Periodontist whom specializes in more detailed extractions, implants and periodontal surgery.
Crowns & Bridges
Crowns are a cap that cover the visible part of a tooth. A crown is used to restore and preotect damaged or decayed teeth. A bridge is a non-removable prosthetic that replaces one or more missing teeth by using the surrounding teeth as anchors. An artificial tooth/teeth is placed to replace the missing tooth/teeth and is attached to the surrounding teeth to make a bridge.
Partial Denture & Full Denture
A partial denture is a removable prosthetic used to replace a few missing teeth and is attached to a patients remaining teeth using clasps or precision attachments. A full denture is a removable prosthetic used to replace an entire upper or lower arch of missing teeth. Both partial and full dentures require a dental impression and are made by our trusted lab. The process can take a few weeks, but it is worth the wait!
Oral Surgery & Root Canal Therapy
For oral surgery, our Doctors specialize in simple, root-tip extractions and surgical extractions. Our Doctors DO NOT specialize in impacted teeth (ie: wisdom teeth). Root canal therapy is a conservative dental procedure performed in attempt to salvage a tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted. A root canal, at minimum, will involve the removal of the nerve tissue and sealing of the canals with a subsequent filling. In regards to both oral surgery and root canal therapy, our doctors may have to refer a patient out due to limited instruments that we don’t provide, but a specialist does!
