About Us

Dr. Kurt L. Hofner was born and raised in Michigan and is a native of Dearborn Heights, MI. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (“DDS”) in 1988 from The University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He has been practicing dentistry for over 30 years. With the help of Dr. Hofner, Sunrise Family Dental Care opened its doors in July 1998. As of 2015, Sunrise is solely owned and operated by Dr. Hofner. His practices are located in Canton, Howell, Redford and South Lyon, Michigan.

He currently resides in Northville with his wife, Michael Ann and his three daughters, Grace, Erica and Emily. He enjoys being involved in his daughters’ sporting events and is an avid follower of all University of Michigan and Detroit sports. He also enjoys spending his summers on the lake with his family. Dr. Hofner practices in the Canton office on Mondays and Tuesdays and the South Lyon office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Dr. Roxanne Serkaian McLaughlin, a lifelong resident of Northville, MI, earned both her Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree at the University of Michigan, Go Blue! She joined Sunrise Family Dental Care of Canton in 1998, and over the years, has enjoyed building relationships with patients and families.

Outside of keeping smiles healthy, she also likes cooking, walking, and attending youth and high school sporting events. Her favorite times are spent with her husband Sean and their three children. Dr. McLaughlin can be seen throughout the week in our Canton office.

Rana Altaweel, DMD (“Dr. Rana”) has been practicing dentistry since 2004.  Initially, she completed her dental studies and graduation abroad before arriving in the United States. She eventually attended the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine, where she graduated and received her additional dental degree in 2016. Dr. Rana has been a “Michigander” since 2008 and lives in West Bloomfield with her husband, Amir (who also is a dentist with Sunrise), and their two children.  

Dr. Rana is driven to provide quality dentistry to her patients in a caring and compassionate manner. In her time away from Sunrise, Dr. Rana loves to spend time with her family, go shopping, bike with her children and spend time cooking and baking in her newly renovated kitchen!!!  Dr. Rana can be seen at our Canton office on Wednesdays through Fridays and some select Saturdays.

Dr. Heba Abuhussein was born in Los Angeles, California. She moved to her native country Saudi Arabia where she completed her education and graduated the top of her class earning a DDS degree at King AbdulAziz University Dental School. She moved back to the United States in 2006 where she completed the Graduate Periodontal Program at the University of Michigan in 2009. She loves teaching and has taught at the University of Michigan’s Dental School as well as King AbdulAziz University Dental School.

Dr. Heba is an active member and Diplomat of the American Academy of Periodontology. She feels extremely fortunate to be in such a wonderful profession that enables her to improve the quality of life of her patients. Dr. Heba currently lives in Saline with her husband, daughter and 3 dogs. She loves nature and outdoor activities like playing sports, biking, skiing and swimming. You can see her in our South Lyon office one Monday a month and in our Canton office one Thursday a month!
